14 The Mines (Working Facilities and Support) Acts 1966 and 1974

The Mines (Working Facilities and Support) Act 1966 is unique in English law, by allowing the compulsory purchase of land, or rights in or over land, for private and commercial gain of another. The Act deals separately with the grant of ‘prospecting and working rights’ and ‘ancillary rights’, although ancillary rights may be conferred at the same time as a grant of working rights1.
