16.5 Duty to provide weights and measures etc

A market authority1 under the Food Act 1984 in whose market cattle, sheep or swine are sold, must provide one or more weighing machines for the weighing of such animals and appoint officers to attend to such matters2. A market authority is under no duty to provide a cold air store or refrigerator for the storage and preservation of meat and other articles of food but may do so3. Some markets are subject to the weighing and measuring provisions of the Markets and Fairs Clauses Act 18474 where those provisions are
