40 Primary infringement—acts restricted by copyright in a work

There are six acts which are described in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 Part I (Sections 1–179) as the acts restricted by the copyright in a work. The copyright owner has the exclusive right to do these restricted acts in the United Kingdom1. They are as follows:

  1. 40.1

        the right to copy the work2;

  2. 40.2

        the right to issue copies of the work to the public3;

  3. 40.3

        the right to rent or lend the work to the public4;

  4. 40.4

        the right to perform, show or play the work in
