27 Literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works

The general rule is that copyright in a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work made on or after 1 January 1996 will expire 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the author dies1. This general rule is subject to various exceptions: works of unknown authorship, works of joint or co-authorship, works of non-EEA nationals and computer-generated works. These categories are discussed in the following four paragraphs.

27.1 Works of unknown authorship

Where authorship is unknown, copyright will expire:

  1. 27.1.1

        70 years from the end of the calendar year
