72.2 Crime prevention etc

Where a ‘relevant highway’1 is in an area designated by the Secretary of State for the purposes of that section of the Act2, and premises adjacent to or adjoining the highway are affected by high levels of crime and the existence of the highway is facilitating the persistent commission of such crime3, then where it is expedient for the purposes of preventing or reducing such disruptive crime, the council may (by order made by them and confirmed as an unopposed order or submitted to and confirmed by the Secretary of State), extinguish the right of way
