66 Control of works in or near the highway

Powers are contained in the Highways Act 19801 for controlling the deposit and removal of builders’ skips in a highway2, restricting the planting of trees or shrubs in or near a carriageway3 or highway4, and for removing structures5 from a highway6.

Local highway authorities can also control the erection of flagpoles and pylons7, the size of gates8, the erection of stiles9 and the pitching of stalls or booths10 in a highway. They may require the removal of anything deposited on a highway so as to cause a nuisance11, and must themselves remove
