F: IMPROVEMENT OF HIGHWAYS

41 General power

A highway authority1 has power to carry out, in relation to a highway maintainable at the public expense2 by it, any work (including the provision of equipment) for the improvement of such highway3, and may alter or remove any works executed by it4. Highway authorities may contract out this function5.

This general power is without prejudice to the powers of improvement specifically conferred on highway authorities by the Highways Act 19806. However, without prejudice to any enactment not contained in the Highways Act
