The free movement of goods and services, free unrestricted competition and the integration of a single market are key issues in the European Union and are protected by Articles 28 to 37, 56 to 62 and Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). While the predecessor of the TFEU, the Treaty of Rome established a common market in Europe, it paid no specific attention to intellectual property rights.
