7 WIPOCopyright Treaty

The objective of the WIPO Copyright Treaty1 is to supplement and update the international regime of protection for literary and artistic works in light of new economic, social, cultural and technological developments2, and is based primarily on the Berne Convention but also on the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights Including Trade in Counterfeit Goods3. Its effect on international law is, in some cases, limited, as the Copyright Treaty specifies a degree of protection already provided in many countries.
