59 Japan: right of publication

The Japan Copyright Act 1970 confers a specific right of publication, additional to the rights protected by copyright, which right may be established by the owner of the reproduction right in a work1. The right of publication is conferred on a person who undertakes in an agreement with the owner of the reproduction right in a work to publish the work in printed form2. The right may only be established with the authorisation of any person who has a security interest in the reproduction right in relation to the work3.
