56 Japan: transfer of copyright and registration of copyright

The economic rights forming part of the copyright in a work may be transferred in whole or in part1. Where a contract for the transfer of copyright makes no particular reference to the right of translation, musical arrangement, transformation, dramatisation or cinematisation or to the right of the author in respect of the exploitation of a derivative work, these rights are presumed to be reserved to the transferor2. The moral rights in a work are exclusively personal to the author and are inalienable3.
