55 Japan: authorship ownership of copyright

The author of a work is the person who creates the work1. The author of a work is the owner of the moral rights in the work and the economic rights in the work2. No formality is required for the protection of the moral rights or economic rights in a work3.

Where a work is made by an employee in the course of their duties and is made public under the name of the employer the authorship of the work is attributed to the employer unless otherwise stipulated in any agreement or work regulation or similar
