49 India: permitted acts

The extensive list of permitted acts contained in Section 52 of the Copyright Act 1957 has been further extended by the Copyright (Amendment) Act 2012.

The principal permitted acts which are relevant to the commercial exploitation of a work or performance are the following:

  1. 49.1

        fair dealing with a work (not being a computer program) for the purposes of private or personal use including research, criticism or review or the reporting of current events or current affairs1;

  2. 49.2

        the transient or incidental storage of a work or performance in the technical process of electronic transmission or communication
