402 ‘Profit’

As with many terms used in the entertainment industry, there is no such thing as a standard definition of ‘profit’. Profit is a variable, and its value depends on the definition which it is given in each agreement. Additionally, the profits for distributors, financiers, producers and artists are all calculated out of different levels of income and expenditure, and in many cases the expenditure actually incurred differs substantially from that used in the profit calculation.
