366 Box office receipts

The number of screens, number of seats per screen and ticket prices of exhibitors in the United Kingdom are known to theatrical distributors. Many exhibitors have one fixed price per seat although concessionary rates are available for old age pensioners. The calculation of box office gross receipts is effected by means of daily returns which a distributor receives from each theatre (or cinema) screening the distributor’s film. Where tickets are sold on a roll, the returns will indicate the opening and closing numbers of each ticket roll per day. The difference will constitute the admission figure.
