335 Facility arrangements

A further method of raising co-production finance may be to enter into a facility arrangement. Facility arrangements are normally suitable where a production needs to be filmed in a particular country and it is sometimes possible to negotiate with a co-production partner for facilities to be provided by way of that partner’s contribution towards the budget. Certain Eastern European countries–notably Yugoslavia and Hungary–are particularly active in this area, since these types of arrangements enable companies to charge out their facilities at a profit, receive payment in western currency, attract foreign expenditure during production and earn foreign currency
