In television production in the United Kingdom the term ‘producer/director’ is also frequently used. This term is suitable to describe the function of an in-house director working within an organisation such as the BBC who is not required to devote any of his time to the raising of finance or the negotiation or signing of agreements relating to production or distribution or the hiring of artists, or indeed the making of practical arrangements for the production (since these will be attended to by the legal and business affairs department or the production’s production manager), and is free instead
