279 Budget

The total budget of a production is calculated by adding up the cost of three separate liabilities, namely, direct costs, indirect costs and contingency.

        Direct costs: The direct costs comprise so-called ‘above-the-line’ costs and ‘below-the-line’ costs. The above-the-line costs include all costs relating to the acquisition of underlying rights and all fees payable to the producer, director and principal cast of the production. Below-the-line costs comprise studio and equipment costs, design and wardrobe costs, the fees of members of the cast other than principal cast, travelling and accommodation costs, film stock costs, laboratory costs, special effect costs
