276 Term of rights

The acquisition of rights on the exercise of an option for a work or on the assignment of copyright in an outline or treatment or screenplay should be for the full available period of copyright protection. It is common to assume that so long as the document states that the rights are acquired for the full period of copyright protection that is all that is necessary. It is, however, important to distinguish between the full period of copyright protection in a film or television series and the full period of copyright protection in a literary work.
