251 The British Phonographic Institute

The British Phonographic Institute (BPI) is the trade association for the record industry. It provides regulatory, conciliation and co-ordinating services, deals with government departments and negotiates with trade unions and broadcasting organisations, and generally looks after the interests of its members.

The BPI works closely with the Musicians’ Union and the British Actors’ Equity Association in negotiating terms and conditions and rates relating to recordings made by BPI members, the provisions relating to promotional films involving clearance of musicians' rights for the exploitation of music videos,
