237 Exempt data

Some kinds of data are exempt from the Act so that in respect of that data registration by a data controller is not necessary, the data protection principles do not apply and the individual has no right of access. Exempt data include:

  1. 237.1

        information collected by an individual for his/her domestic purposes1;

  2. 237.2

        personal data information maintained to safeguard national security2;

  3. 237.3

        personal data processed only for ‘the special purposes’ defined as journalism, artistic or literary purposes and where publication is in the public interest3;

  4. 237.4

        personal data processed for the purposes of research, statistics or history
