225 Public interest and publication on websites

The Defamation Act 2013 introduced a defence of public interest. This is available if the statement complained of was a statement on a matter of public interest and the defendant reasonably believed that publishing the statement was in the public interest1.

Where an action for defamation is brought against the operator of a website in relation to a statement posted on the website, it is a defence for the operator to show that they did not post the statement2.
