206 Contractual provisions relating to rental rights and performers’ property rights

The amendments effected to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1998 by the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 1996 created a rental and lending right both in relation to certain copyright works (literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works and films) and in relation to performers’ property rights. The scope of this right was extended by Council Directive (EU) 2011/77 which extended and revived the term of performers rights in certain sound recordings1.
