183 Rights in performances generally

The rights of performers under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 have been completely transformed and significantly extended by secondary legislation introduced into UK legislation pursuant to European Union directives and international treaty obligations.

The first significant change was brought about by the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 1996/2967 which introduced extensive new rights for performers by way of amendment to the 1988 Act pursuant to Council Directive (EC) 93/98 and Council Directive (EEC) 92/100 which came into effect on 19 November 1992.
