17 WIPOPerformances and Phonograms Treaty

The objective of the WIPOPerformances and Phonograms Treaty1 is to maintain the protection of the rights of performers and producers of phonograms in as effective and uniform a way as possible and the Treaty is designed to introduce new international rules and clarify the interpretation of existing rules in the light of new economic, social, cultural and technological developments2. As with the WIPO Copyright Treaty, its effect on international law is, in some cases, limited, as the Treaty specifies a degree of protection already provided in many countries.
