149 Former Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 provisions relating to pre-June 1957 films and sound recordings

Where a film made before 1 June 1957 was an original dramatic work within the meaning of the Copyright Act 1911, the copyright provisions of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 applied to it as if it was an original dramatic work within the meaning of the 1988 Act1; the copyright protection period was, therefore, 50 years from the end of the calendar year in which the author died2. The same protection period applied to such films under the Copyright Act 19563;
