The sound track of a film to which the Copyright Act 1956 applied (ie a film made on or after 1 June 1957 but before 1 August 1989) was to be treated for the purpose of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 not as part of the film but as a sound recording1. This provision had retrospective effect but was controlled by the relevant transitional provisions in the 1988 Act which provided that copyright
