120 Overview of UK copyright legislation

The extent of change brought about in UK copyright legislation by European Union directives may be seen by referring to the summaries of those directives contained in Paragraph 98 onwards and examining the extent of the references made to them in the notes to Paragraphs 121 to 126. Not only have these directives harmonised the laws throughout European Union member states, but they have also introduced changes required pursuant to the WIPO Copyright Treaty and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty which are creating further convergence in international legislation.

The principal changes brought about by European Union directives to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 are as follows:
