111 Council Directive (EU) 2011/77 on the term of copyright and related rights

Council Directive (EU) 2011/77 amends Council Directive (EC) 2006/116 and extends the 50-year term of protection provided in that Directive to performers and to producers of phonograms1. The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union examined the level of protection accorded to performers and were of the view that the socially recognised importance of their contributions should be reflected in a level of protection that acknowledged their creative and artistic contribution2.
