101 Council Directive (EC) 98/34—provision of information on technical standards and regulations; rules on Information Society Services

Council Directive (EC) 98/34 was amended and extended to apply to information society services by Council Directive (EC) 98/48. European Union member states are obliged to notify to the Commission and every other European Union member state all national technical regulations relating to products, and national regulations specifically concerning information society services1. Once notified, the measure enters a standstill period during which it cannot be laid before the legislature, enabling other European Union member states and the European Commission to raise concerns as to whether the proposed measure might impede the free operation of the internal market2.
