24 Compensatory leases

As noted above, the consent of the holder of a lease granted for 21 years or less is required for the registration of land as commonhold where the lease will be extinguished on the commonhold becoming fully effective, unless the lessee is entitled to a compensatory lease and his entitlement is protected by notice at the Land Registry1.

On the registration of a commonhold with unit-holders, the effect of registration is to extinguish any lease of the whole or part of the commonhold land2. In the case of the registration of land without unit-holders, any lease will be
