281 Unfair trading and consumer protection

The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 20081 (UTR) aim to prevent business practices which are unfair to consumers. Unlike other legislation outlined above, the UTR does not directly affect contractual terms and conditions as such. Until 2014, a consumer who encountered or suffered from an unfair business practice could not enforce such a detriment directly; she would have needed to involve an enforcement authority to exercise criminal and/or civil powers2.
