6 Working men’s clubs

Working men’s clubs, which are defined as societies for the purposes of social intercourse, mutual helpfulness, mental and moral improvement and rational recreation1, might, up to 1 February 19932, be registered as friendly societies3. If registered before that date, they continue as registered societies subject to the provisions of the Friendly Societies Act 19744. A working men’s club may also find it desirable to be registered under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 and on such registration it becomes a body corporate having its own
