7 Registration of aircraft

Subject only to minor exceptions1, an aircraft must be registered in a qualifying state before it can fly in or over the United Kingdom2. Although aircraft are required to have the nationality of the state in which they are registered3, there is no international requirement for a genuine link between ownership and nationality of an aircraft. Nonetheless, eligibility rules for registration in the United Kingdom, in common with those of many other states, include requirements relating to nationality.
