It should be noted that aviation operators, lessors and financiers are becoming more and more aware of continuing legal obligations brought about following the international framework recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (‘ICAO’)1 following the Kyoto protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change2. As a result there have followed a great deal of negotiations on how this would effect aircraft operations which contribute to climate change through emissions of carbon dioxide, a direct greenhouse gas.
