18 Requirement to hold licences

Any operator intending to operate an aircraft for the carriage of passengers and/or cargo for remuneration must obtain, in addition to applicable technical licences, one or more of a number of different operating permissions, which are granted in the form of operating licences1, route licences2 and air transport licences3, before commencing operations. Such licences relate to economic considerations and the right to operate services on particular routes (ie in general terms, financial fitness and traffic rights).
