Modern fund-raising methods should include an investigation of the extent to which funds may be available, not only from individuals, commercial organisations and other charities, but also from central and local government, the National Lottery and, in appropriate cases, the European Union (although this is likely to be affected by Brexit).

The categories of activity for which public funds may be contributed are by no means closed, although the relative generosity of such sources is liable to vary with the economic and political priorities of successive authorities. The availability of financial assistance from public funds
