87 The Fundraising Regulator and the 2016 Act

The relatively recent date of the establishment of the Fundraising Regulator in 2016 makes it difficult to assess its effectiveness and thus whether it is likely that further, mandatory, regulation will be thought necessary. Charities and fund-raising bodies including online fund-raising platforms are encouraged to register with the Fundraising Regulator but are not required to do so, and the guidance published by the regulator, principally the Fundraising Code, has no more than persuasive force. Following certain well-publicised scandals, however, statutory provision has been made in the Charities (Social Investment and Protection) Act
