7.2 Advancement of health or the saving of lives

The advancement of health ‘includes the prevention or relief of sickness, disease or human suffering1’. Prevention or relief of sickness may perhaps most readily be seen in hospital endowments and other charitable funds administered by health authorities along with supporting bodies like the leagues of friends of named hospitals2. It also includes independent organisations such as those concerned with the relief of sufferers from a particular disease3 and medical research4 into the causes and treatment of various medical conditions.
