108 Reduced rate of inheritance tax when 10% of the net estate left to charity

The Finance Act 2012 introduced the reduction of the inheritance tax rate by 10% (at the present tax rate of 40% to 36%) for taxpayers leaving 10% or more of their net estate to charity1. This measure applied to estates where death occurred on or after 6 April 20122. The lower rate can only apply if part of the estate would otherwise be chargeable to inheritance tax at a rate other than 0%: in practice at 40%. It is suggested that
