7 Change of name

The Companies Act 2006 allows a company to change its name by special resolution of its shareholders or by other means provided for by the company’s articles1. The new name must comply with the usual requirements2 relating to the name of a company.

A change may be required at the direction of the Secretary of State if:

  1. 7.1

        the name is the same as or, in the opinion of the Secretary of State, too like a name appearing at the time of the registration in the index of company names3; or

  2. 7.2

        the name is the same
