A: CHANGE OF NAME BY AN INDIVIDUAL

1 Assumption of a new name in general

Save that there may be certain requirements as to notification, the general rule is that any person is entitled to change their name without the permission of any authority, and without compliance with any formality, provided that the use of the assumed name is not calculated to deceive or inflict a pecuniary loss1, and no legal wrong is committed merely because a person assumes the name by which another person is known2. In general, the change of name has the effect of substituting the new name
