9.2 Permit vehicles

Vehicles used under a permit are not subject to the public service vehicle licensing requirements. Permits are issued under the Transport Act 1985 and may be granted in respect of a ‘public service vehicle other than a large bus’1 by a designated organisation or by the traffic commissioner, and in respect of a ‘large bus’2 by the traffic commissioner3.
