8 Terms and conditions of contracts

Contracts of carriage vary widely, from substantial long-term arrangements1 to straightforward one-off transactions2. There are frequently a series of similar transactions, each in law a separate contract, but intended to be governed by the same terms and conditions3. Most carriers intend to do business on the standard terms of one of the trade associations, although the arrangements for individual contracts may well be made orally or evidenced only by a brief consignment note4.
