Where carriage is performed partly by air and partly by any other mode of carriage (known as multimodal carriage), the Montreal Convention and every version of the Warsaw Convention applies only to the transportation by air, and only to the extent that such carriage by air falls within the scope of the subject Convention1. In the case of the carriage of goods, the Montreal Convention 1999 specifies that the period of the carriage by air does not extend to any carriage by land, by sea or by inland waterway performed outside an airport2.
