9 Stage 2 — the development stage

Assuming that Stage 1 has been successful, the business is now likely to move into a period of expansion. More sales mean more employees and more managers so the main feature of this stage is the transformation of the business from a one-man band to a fully-fledged professional organisation. The larger and more complex an organisation, the more need there is for a clear infrastructure with detailed procedures and policies.

This stage of the business’s life cycle can be quite traumatic for a proprietor who has become used to making all the decisions alone.
