48.2 The company name

The differences between private and public companies have already been considered1. The company’s domicile and the statement of limited liability need no further discussion. The choice of company name however deserves a few further comments.

The name of a limited company that is a public company must end with ‘public limited company’ or ‘plc’2 whilst the name of a limited company that is a private company must end with ‘limited’ or ‘ltd’3.
