135.2 Sources of private equity finance

Some sources of private equity finance will not be available to a small business at the start-up stage, either because the capital requirement of the business is too small for the provider to bother with, or because the provider is mainly interested in investing in an existing business with an established track record. In the former category would be most venture capital funds, which do not tend to be interested in investments of less than £2 million, on the basis that making a small number of large investments provides them with economies of scale
