9 General provisions relating to burial places

The provision, maintenance, or improvement of a public burial ground is a charitable purpose1, although the maintenance of individual graves or monuments is usually not2. Burial places, including churchyards, are rateable3.

Subject to certain exceptions, an Order in Council may be made ordering that, after a time mentioned in the order, burials in any city or town, or within any other limits, or in any burial grounds or places of burial, must be discontinued wholly or subject to any exceptions or qualifications mentioned in the order4.
