39 Regulation of crematoria

The maintenance and inspection of crematoria and manner of disposal of human remains there are governed by regulations made by the Secretary of State1.

Human remains may not be burned in a crematorium until the crematorium has been certified to the Secretary of State by the burial authority or other person by whom it is established to be complete and properly equipped for the purposes of the disposal of human remains by burning2. At least one month’s notice of its opening must also have been given to the Secretary of State3.
